Taxus baccata

Taxus baccata – an evergreen shrub or low tree up to 15 m high. It is recognizable for its red, fleshy fruits that ripen in late fall. It grows best in shady areas with high humidity and in clay soils. Deep and fertile lands suit it, though it thrives on shallow and poor soil. It tolerates urban pollution and can also be planted in the continental climate. It is slow to grow but can live over 2000 years. A protected species in Croatia.
