Tamarix gallica

Tamarix gallica – a deciduous shrub or small tree, 3 to 5 m high with deep roots. Young twigs are purple-red, thin and elegantly curved. It blooms in May and June. The fruit is pomegranate. It thrives in sunny and sheltered positions. Not picky about soil quality. It withstands salty soils, saline and drought, and looks for sandy soils with a fairly mild surface. It is used for planting a free-standing hedge by the sea, and it looks nice as a solitaire.
