Pinus pinea

Pinus pinea – a distinctly Mediterranean species, distributed throughout the Mediterranean coast, part of northern Africa and the Canary Islands. Its seed is called pine nut and is edible. It has a characteristic habitus, regular trunk and a high raised treetop, at a young age round and later resembling the shape of an umbrella. Because of its beautiful appearance, it is often planted inside urban areas as a decorative tree.
